| Biography: |
| Garko is the best hitter on the 2003 Cardinal and one of the best catchers in the country. While he played little in his freshman season (2000), he led the Cardinal in batting average in 2001 (.368) and led Stanford in HR in 2002 (14). Strangely, Garko was not drafted in the 2002 draft despite hitting 3rd for Stanford for two years, hitting for average and power. He lost 20 pounds before the 2003 season and is having a career year, with personal records in HR and RBI. He was named the Co-Pac-10 Player of the Year in 2003 and one of 10 Johnny Bench semi-finalists, an award which goes the the best college catcher. Incredible plate discipline and does not strike out often. |
