2005:Walker is a special back…he isn’t fast, but he is shifty and has a nice burst when he gets to the hole. He runs well between the tackles and can get to the outside...sets up his blocks very well and is very patient. He can catch the ball and blocks...Bottom line is that he does everything very well. The only thing Darius needs to improve on is his strength and power, but we fully expect that to be taken care of in the off-season...With veteran offensive line that averages 567 career minutes played in front of him, we expect Walker to rush for well over 1,000 yards.
2004:Walker was everything Irish fans expected and more. One of four freshman to play, he led the Irish in rushing yardage (786), rushing attempts (185), and TDs (7). He burst onto the scene in the 2nd game of the year, as he rushed for a season high 115 yards and scored his first 2 Tds in a victory against Michigan. Walker had 112 yards on 16 carries vs. Pitt….70 yards on 9 carries vs. Tennessee.
High School: Scout’s #20 rated RB. #63 overall player by ESPN. Georgia Gatorade Player of the Year. Georgia prep player of the year. His team won 3 consecutive state titles...45 game winning streak. As a senior, he rushed for 2,406 yards and 46 TDs. 46 TDS broke Herschel Walker's Georgia High School's single-season record of 42 TDs. As a junior rushed for 1,986 yards and 26 TDs...as a sophomore he rushed for 1,003 yards and 15 TDs. His dad played at Arkansas under Lou Holtz. Final Schools: Ohio St, Stanford, Alabama, Arkansas
