Bringing the Stanford Family Together
We wanted everyone to be aware of a wonderful new post-game tradition that is
taking hold at Stanford Stadium on game days. A good friend of The Bootleg, Mr. Bob Williams, has rallied
the football program, the athletic director and just about everyone else in the
Stanford sports community around a terrific concept. Wouldn’t it be
outstanding if after the Arizona game is played during Reunion Homecoming,
each member of the Stanford Family, including our proud alumni and fans, stayed on after
the game, win or lose, and gathered together in celebration of respect and
admiration for our school, our players, and our coaching staff? Answer:
Yes!
Got to give it up for Cardinal head coach Jim Harbaugh for making it happen. Understandably, team
activity on game days is strictly regulated and it says something that Harbaugh
felt strongly enough about the value of this effort to encourage the team to
participate. Props from us for that very cool move!
The Stanford Alumni Association in its Reunion Homecoming 2008
materials, is urging all those attending the game to stay on to join the
Stanford football players and students for the singing of the alma mater: Hail
Stanford, Hail
The Alma Mater concept was successfully implemented after the New Stanford
Stadium-christening game against the United States Naval Academy in 2006 and
took place again after the Oregon State and San Jose State games this year. From
The Bootleg's perspective, it certainly seemed in each instance that people
genuinely were touched and
felt very proud to be a part of the Stanford family.
Again, we want to thank Bob Williams for his tireless efforts in helping make this
new tradition possible! We are hoping that this can become a special part of Reunion Weekend each
and every year. Heck, we would love seeing it happen after every game, every
year.
Hail, Stanford, Hail! and Go Cardinal! De-claw the Cats!
