Stanford Football's famed “Council of Chiefs” is gearing up for another big season.  It all starts with the Council of Chiefs' 2008 Season Opener at 7:00AM this Wednesday morning, August 27, 2008, at Jimmy V's Sports Café at the Arrillaga Family Sports Center on the Stanford campus. Don't worry, those of you with day jobs - you'll be able to make it to your office by 9:00AM.

The “Council of Chiefs” is a venerable institution, one of Stanford Football's time-tested traditions, one that has carried on consistently for more than half a century. With Bob Murphy having retired, yours truly, Jim Rutter [LSJU ‘86], will be emceeing the morning events and conducting interviews with players and coaches. Stanford's Offensive Coordinator, former Cardinal wide receiver David Shaw and graduate assistant and former Cardinal fullback Casey Moore will be our special guests on Wednesday along with two current Cardinal players (actual players to be confirmed shortly).

In all, there will be six councils meetings this season.  Except for this special Wednesday edition, necessitated by the rare Thursday night game against the Beavers, we will be meeting as usual on the Friday mornings before the San Jose State, Arizona, Washington State, USC and Cal games.

Sign up now, become a member of the Council and reserve your spot today!  We are hoping to rally a large representation from The Bootleg community to help keep the event fresh and lively!

Whether the Council has taken place at Stickney's, the Holiday Inn, the Sheraton, Jimmy V's or wherever, it has always been a fan-tastic way to fire up for the football weekend and a unique opportunity to get to know the terrific young Stanford players as individual personalities, all while hanging out with some of the most loyal, supportive fans in the history of the universe.
