Arianna Lambie, Women's 5000m + 1500m winner
After winning the women's 5K:
"I'm so grateful to be feeling like I do right now. I'm healthy, I'm fit, and
more than anything, I'm out there with my teammates."
On becoming the first 1500 and 5K winner in women's Pac-10 history:
"There's a lot of honor to winning individual events and so I'm happy to honor
Stanford."
On Stanford's strategy in the 1500:
"We were probably more nervous than anyone could have guessed. We were excited
to try it and thrilled to pull it off. It was a lot of fun, and it got me and
many of my teammates psyched."
Lauren Centrowitz, Women's 1500m (2nd)
On Stanford's strategy in the 1500:
"We were trying to go for the 1-2-3 sweep. Arianna held back because she was
supposed to hold off everybody else, and then she has enough speed to catch up
to us. It worked because most of the runners maybe were keying off Ariana, as
she's the defending champion in the 1500."
On the 1-2-3 sweep:
"I'm so happy! We weren't expecting this at all."
Erica McLain, Women's Triple Jump winner
On winning the triple but taking second in the long jump:
"It's definitely good though. In long jump, I didn't have the right mindset. I knew Rhonda Watkins came in better than me, but I should have done better. But
today, I came in with the mindset that I knew I could do something big."
On her winning jump, five centimeters off the Olympic A standard:
"It sets me up really well not only for NCAAs, but also sets me up really
well for trying to make the Olympics. My parents have already bought stadium
tickets and are waiting for me to qualify to buy plane tickets, but I'm going to
qualify. I'm going to Beijing."
Russell Brown, Men's 1500m winner
On his thoughts while leading the race:
"The thing is, the whole time, the only time I saw a look of anyone else was
on the Jumbotron. I didn't how how they were thinking, how they were feeling, so
it was hard. I ratcheted it up with about 700 to go and no one came. With about
100 to go I knew I had it because no one had pressed me beyond where I wanted to
press myself. So I enjoyed the last 100. Obviously I was nervous because
anything can happen, but I felt so good."
"This is my first Pac-10 Championship. I firmly believe that this is the best
conference in the country, so it gives me the utmost confidence because I think
anyway the race was run, I would have won it. My goal is to win an NCAA
Championship, and I don't think there are too many guys better than these guys
today."
Teresa McWalters, Women's 10,000m winner
On winning the 10K:
"When Amy and I broke away with 5K to go, that gave me a lot of confidence. I
felt really comfortable and smooth. Every lap was a new surprise. I kept feeding
off the energy."
On the differences between cross country and track:
"I like to think of cross country as blood and guts. You don't have to be
particularly quick. You just need to have guts; you need to have heart. On the
track, though, it seems more strategic."
