The pitcher on Stanford's staff who might be the most mentally strong on the mound today is also the one who has the greatest reason to be fearful. Junior righthander Erik Davis was felled by a line drive in June that nearly robbed him of an eye. He returned to Stanford, threw throughout the fall and now is picking up the confidence of the Cardinal coaches with some impressive performances.
