As the regular season comes to an end, let's take a look at the stats from
this tough overtime loss to Arizona and see what stands out as Stanford heads to Staples to face USC on
Thursday at 6:00pm in the quarterfinals of the Pacific-10 Tournament:
- The most points scored by an individual before Ivan Radenovic's 37 points
today against Stanford was 26 by Ayinde Ubaka in Stanford's home loss vs.
California.
- In the first and last five-minute stretches of the game, Arizona shot 11-of-12 (91.7%) from the field with one turnover, while Stanford shot just 3-of-10 (30%) with six turnovers. The rest of the game, the Wildcats were 19-of-49
(38.8%), while the Cardinal shot 24-of-53 (45.3%).
- Radenovic's total line in two victories over the Cardinal: 59 points on 19-of-32 shooting, 15 rebounds (six offensive), 12 assists,
four turnovers, six steals,
and just one personal foul in 80 minutes of game time (out of possible 85).
- Despite their size advantage, the Cardinal have been on the wrong side of
the "points in the paint" statistics in more than a handful of games this
season. Today was no exception, as Stanford was outscored in the painted area by
the Wildcats, 40-18.
- Stanford endured three stretches of three-plus minutes without scoring in
the first half. In those stretches (4:12, 3:35 and 3:27), the Cardinal
were
outscored 24-0 by Arizona.
- In 96 minutes of play against teams with the moniker of "Wildcats," Fred Washington went to the free throw line exactly zero times. So far this season,
outside of the match-ups with Arizona and Northwestern, Washington has gone to
the charity stripe at least once in every other game.
- The Cardinal had a resurgence from the free throw line in the second half
of the conference slate. During the first round of conference play, Stanford
shot 67.4% (130-of-193). In the second round, Stanford shot 78.4% (131-of-167),
an astounding 11% increase.
- This was the first time all season that Stanford had three players break
the 20-point barrier with Kenny Brown (22), Brook Lopez (21) and Lawrence Hill
(20). The trio shot 23-of-46 from the field (50%), while the rest of the team
was 4-of-17 (23.5%).
