Bootleg Video: Brendon Domaracki Post-Game

All smiles for Domaracki

It is never too early in the season to have heroes, and sophomore OF Brendon Domaracki was a big one Friday night at Sunken Diamond for Stanford Baseball. His pinch-hit game-winner against #5-ranked Cal State Fullerton gave the Cardinal a 2-1 win and shot in the arm to start of the 2006 season. He answered questions afterward on the at bat, Stanford's pitching, and the importance of the win.

After sitting on the bench cold for two and a half hours, Domaracki was called into the game for the biggest at bat of the young 2006 Stanford Baseball season.  Junior Michael Taylor had led off the bottom of the ninth inning, with the game tied 1-1, with a triple to put the winning run just 90 feet from home plate.  Three batters later, the bases were loaded with one out.  Domaracki picked up two quick strikes, and either a strike out or a double-play ball would be a crushing disappointment for the sophomore.  Instead, he reached out and slapped a fast ball into left field, just under the glove of the Cal State Fullerton third baseman.

The 2-1 victory over the #5-ranked Titans was a thrilling way to start the season for Stanford and Domaracki, and he talked afterward about the ups and downs of that at bat.  Domaracki also heaped praise on his teammates for the win, including the combined pitching of junior Greg Reynolds and freshman Jeremy Bleich to allow just one run through nine innings against a famously potent offense.
