Mountain View High Football Player Trevor Hooper Commits to
Stanford
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA. - January 14, 2002 - Trevor Hooper, senior
at Mountain View High School, accepted a full football
scholarship offer from Stanford University’s new head
football coach, Buddy Teevens, during his official visit to the
Stanford campus over the weekend. Hooper is expected to sign his
National Letter of Intent on February 6 and will support the
Stanford Cardinal defense in either a safety or cornerback
position. Hooper is the first player from Mountain View
High to be offered a Pac10 football scholarship.
“I was totally impressed with the academic and athletic
environment at Stanford and with Coach Teevens,” said
Hooper. “My decision was based on the comfort level I felt
with the players and the chance to be close to home, and I am
honored to have a chance to become part of the Stanford Cardinal
legacy.”
Hooper, running back and left cornerback for the Mountain View
Spartans, led his team to its first Santa Clara Valley Athletic
League (SCVAL) El Camino Division title since 1995, finishing the
season with an 8-2 record. He rushed for 1,223 yards and had 24
catches for 298 yards, scoring 14 touchdowns. He was recently
named most valuable player for the SCVAL League and was selected
for the second team defense in California’s Central Coast
Section (CCS.)
“We are very excited for Trevor and happy with his
decision,” said Mountain View Head Football Coach and
Athletic Director, Dan Navarro. “It’s great that
we’ll be able to follow his football career so close to
home, playing for Stanford.”
Hooper also participates in Mountain View’s varsity track
and field program, lettering in triple jump, long jump and the
4x100 relay. He competed in the CCS semi-finals in triple jump
and long jump last season. An honor student, Hooper is a
California Scholarship Federation member and was recognized by
the 2002 National Achievement Scholarship Program for placing in
the top five percent of African-Americans nationwide.
Hooper lives with his mother, Marcy, a public relations
consultant, in Mountain View. His sister Meghan, a graduate
of nearby Los Altos High School, is a senior at Northwestern
University in Evanston, Illinois. His father, Stix Hooper, was
the drummer for jazz group The Crusaders and is now a music
producer, residing in Kenmore, Washington.
