Stanford's primary official visit weekend is here. Thirteen recruits are set to take in team-oriented visits to the university's campus.
"Big time weekend on the docket," recruiting coordinator Mike Sanford tweeted Friday morning. "We can't wait to show the best University on the planet and its surrounding areas."
The Bootleg approximates 14 open scholarships for Stanford's 2013 recruiting class. Nine seniors exhausted their eligibility after the Rose Bowl, four won't return next season, and one player (Brett Nottingham) is transferring. The amount of available scholarships, of course, can fluctuate depending on medical retirements and other unexpected internal roster developments.
Nine of this weekend's 13 visitors have already verbally committed to The Farm, leaving Georgia tight end prospect Greg Taboada as the only current pledge not making the trip this weekend. Taboada is staying home in Atlanta to play in two high school basketball games and will instead visit Stanford next weekend.
The remaining four visitors -- TE Austin Hooper, TE Durham Smythe, WR Devon Allen, and C Thomas Oser -- remain uncommitted, but that can change at any time this weekend. Receivers and tight ends, in particular, are positions of need for the Cardinal. Florida receiver prospect Jordan Cunningham, another pass-catching prospect who looks to fit in nicely, already took his official visit in November when the Farm Boys beat Oregon State.
A handful of players are still awaiting Stanford admissions decisions, a common reason behind delayed Cardinal verbal commitments. Sources have suggested that at least some admissions decisions can be returned as early as this weekend.
