The New York Jets made life difficult for Indianapolis' rookie quarterback last Sunday as they held Andrew Luck to the lowest passer rating of his short NFL career.
Colts' signal-caller
Andrew Luck
struggled to hit receivers, threw two interceptions, and failed to reach the end zone en route to a 35-9 blowout against the
New York Jets
last Sunday. The banged up Jets secondary found a way to overcome multiple injuries and stymied the No. 1 overall pick, cruising their way to an easy victory against Indianapolis and ending a two game losing skid. Luck finished the day 22 of 44 for 280 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. In addition, Luck was sacked four times and lost a fumble. This was Luck's first regular season game in which he failed to score a touchdown. Double/right click here to configure the ad After throwing a pick to
Antonio Cromartie
midway through the second quarter, Gang Green was able to gain early control of the game. On the ensuing possession, the Jets needed only five plays to reach the end zone for their second score. Entering Sunday's contest, the Jets had a 71.4 percent scoring ratio after the opposition gave the ball away. Cromartie registered his team-leading third interception of the season, He would bring the pick back 33 yards for a touchdown before an unnecessary roughness penalty negated the return. Cromartie was able to silence
Reggie Wayne
who in the previous week totaled over 200 receiving yards in a Colts win. "I’m just trying to do my best and make sure that the other guys are doing the same - make sure they’re playing at a high level too," said Cromartie. One of those players that has elevated his game is
Ellis Lankster
, a third year player who also was stepped in to intercept Luck during the second half. Lankster's pick was the first of his NFL career and turned away a near touchdown pass to wide receiver
Donnie Avery
.
Kyle Wilson
also stepped up in place of injured corner
Darrelle Revis
. Wilson made three tackles and forced a fumble that led to another Colts turnover. In addition to the secondary, the Jets front seven made life very difficult for the former
Stanford
quarterback. They were able to rush Luck into making errant throws and disrupted the flow which enabled him to perform his late game heroics against the
Green Bay Packers
during Week Five. After drawing an intentional grounding penalty from Luck, rookie Defensive end
Quinton Coples
registered the first sack of his career when he brought down Luck for a 14-yard loss. Coples would later split a sack with
Aaron Maybin
, when the two brought down Luck for a seven-yard loss. After four weeks of disappointing play, safety
LaRon Landry
was all smiles after the confidence building win against the Colts. However, he believes that the team should take the performance and apply to to a difficult matchup next week against a
New England Patriots
team that is fuming after their late game collapse in Seattle. "Our job is to win," asserted Landry. "It’s a confidence builder. We needed a change, we just have to build on it."
