In light of the recent attention given to the admirable and appropriate effort to make a case for Jim Plunkett's candidacy for the Professional Football Hall of Fame, I was inspired to search through the Archives a bit and I came across some material related to #16's career at Stanford that I thought some Bootleg readers might enjoy. This is the official press kit put out by the Stanford Athletic Department back in 1970. The great Bob Murphy was heading up Sports Information
at the time. While this summary of Jim's accomplishments during his collegiate
career is only partly relevant to his case for the Pro HOF, it remains an impressive biography of a very special athlete. For those too young to remember 1970, here it is as a "Plunkett Pigskin Primer" for you. For those of us cagey veterans, here it is to refresh your memories.
